Brazil end gymnastics worlds with six medals, Rebeca Andrade bags five

The team closes its campaign with the best medal haul in history

After winning the gold medal on vault at the World Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, on Saturday (Oct. 7), Rebeca Andrade was back on the podium. On Sunday morning (8), she scored 14.500 points and was second on floor. Flávia Saraiva took bronze, with 13.966 points. The gold went to US athlete Simone Biles.

For the first time in history, Brazil has two athletes on the same podium at the World Championships. The national team closes its campaign in Belgium with the best medal haul in history.

Also on Sunday, the last day of competitions in Europe, Rebeca Andrade scored 14.300 points in the beam finals and clinched bronze. This was the only apparatus on which the Olympic champion had not won medals at the world championships. Simone Biles was the best, with 14.800, and China’s Yaqin Zhou was close behind, with 14.700.

In this edition of the World Championships, Andrade also won silver in the individual all-around and in the team competition, alongside Lorrane Oliveira, Flávia Saraiva, and Jade Barbosa.
