Brazil surpasses 200-medal milestone at Parapan American Games
In the ongoing Parapan American Games in Santiago, Chile, Brazil has achieved a remarkable feat by exceeding the 200-medal mark. On Wednesday (Nov. 22) alone, the Brazilian team clinched 46 medals, comprising 25 gold, 10 silver, and 11 bronze. This outstanding performance elevated Brazil's overall medal count to 201, including 92 gold, 55 silver, and 54 bronze.
Maintaining its lead on the medals table at the mega sporting event, Brazil outshines competitors such as the United States, with 88 medals (29 gold, 30 silver, and 29 bronze), and Colombia, boasting 92 podium finishes (26 gold, 38 silver, and 28 bronze).
Athletics emerged as a key contributor to Brazil's success on this remarkable day, securing a total of 13 medals, including four gold, five silver, and four bronze.
Notably, two-time Paralympic champion and three-time world champion Alessandro da Silva earned one of the gold medals in the men's discus throw F11 category (for blind athletes), achieving a mark of 44.95 meters. Silva, who is also competing in the weight throw, expressed his determination: "I came here to do my best, and I secured the medal. Now it's time to pursue a third title in the weight throw at the Parapan American Games and, next year, aim for a fourth [world] title in the discus throw," stated Silva.
