Brazilian women's team wins bronze in artistic gymnastics in Paris

On Tuesday afternoon (Jul. 30), Brazilian athletes Rebeca Andrade, Flavia Saraiva, Jade Barbosa, Lorrane Oliveira, and Julia Soares made history by winning the bronze medal in the artistic gymnastics team competition at the Paris Olympics. This marks Brazil's first podium finish in the team event at the Games.

To achieve this milestone, the Brazilian team earned 164.497 points, finishing behind the United States, who won gold with 171.296 points thanks to Simone Biles' outstanding performance, and Italy, who claimed silver with 165.494 points.

Following their bronze medal, the Brazilian gymnasts are eager to compete in four more artistic gymnastics finals. Rebeca Andrade will vie for medals in beam, individual all-around, vault, and floor. Julia Soares will contend for a podium spot in the all-around, while Flavia Saraiva will represent Brazil in the individual all-around.

“I was very happy, I couldn't stop crying, I cried a lot, because we know how hard each one of us works, how much each one dedicates every day to training. Seeing this medal here on our chest is gratifying,” said Julia Soares.

Flávia Saraiva, who injured her eyebrow during warm-ups, emphasized the unity of the Brazilian team: “Thank God we were able to complete the competition. I literally gave my all, and the result speaks for itself. I’m thrilled to have won this team medal. I tell everyone that competing as a team is the most rewarding experience, especially for me, as I feel deeply supported by my teammates. We care for each other immensely, we know the effort we put in for one another, and we work tirelessly every day to achieve our best.”

The bronze medal in women's team artistic gymnastics is Brazil’s fourth medal at the Paris Games, adding to a silver earned by William Lima in judo and bronzes won by Larissa Pimenta also in judo and Rayssa Leal in skateboarding.
