Rebeca wins gold on floor, becomes Brazil's top olympic medalist
Rebeca Andrade’s departure from the Paris Olympics was nothing short of spectacular. On Monday (Aug. 5), the Brazilian gymnast clinched the gold medal in the floor exercise, marking her fourth podium finish in the French capital. This victory also brought her total to six Olympic medals, making her the most decorated Brazilian athlete in Olympic history, surpassing sailors Robert Scheidt and Torben Grael with whom she was previously tied.
Rebeca Andrade scored 14.166 in her floor exercise, narrowly surpassing the favored Simone Biles, who earned 14.133 despite two penalties for stepping off the competition platform. Biles, who had earlier missed out on the beam podium along with Andrade, claimed the silver medal. The bronze went to Jordan Chiles, also from the United States, with a score of 13.766.
This was Rebeca Andrade's first gold medal in Paris. She had previously secured silver medals in the individual all-around and vault, as well as a bronze with the team. In the finals she competed in, the only event where she missed the podium was on the beam, where she finished fourth.
