Takahashi, Teodoro win gold at Pan Table Tennis Championships
Giulia Takahashi and Guilherme Teodoro claimed the mixed doubles title at the Pan-American Table Tennis Championships in El Salvador, defeating their experienced compatriots, world No. 6 Hugo Calderano and Bruna Takahashi (ranked 19th), Giulia's sister."
Teodoro (ranked 173rd) and Giulia Takahashi (92nd) staged a thrilling comeback to claim the gold, winning 3 sets to 2. Calderano and Bruna Takahashi, a couple off the court, took home the silver.
This Friday (Oct. 18), Giulia will compete in the women's doubles final with partner Laura Watanabe, facing Mexico's Paulina Vega and Daniela Ortega. Meanwhile, Calderano will take on fellow Brazilian Vitor Ishiy (ranked 78th) in an all-Brazilian men's final.
Bruna Takahashi advanced to the women's singles final after a hard-fought 4-3 victory over American Amy Wang (ranked 53rd). The Brazilian will now compete for the gold against Puerto Rico's Adriana Diaz (ranked 13th).
The Pan-American Championship runs through Sunday (20), with live coverage available on the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) channel.
