Australia's national soccer team was the first visiting team to arrive in Brazil for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Known in their home country as the Socceroos, they landed in the country on Wednesday (May 28) after a 20-hour flight from Sydney, Australia, to Vitória, in the state of Espírito Santo, where the team will be based for the tournament.

Featuring in the 59th place in the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) ranking, the Australians have secured their third appearance in the competition through the Asia qualifiers.

In the group phase, Australia will start off on June 13 playing Chile as part of Group B, in the city of Cuiabá, Mato Grosso state. The team's next opponents are the current runner-up, the Netherlands (on June 18), and the current champion, Spain (June 23).

As a warm-up for the tournament, the Australians will play a friendly match against Croatia, in Salvador, Bahia, on June 6.
