Around 200 Federal Police agents are executing today (May 21) 40 warrants of search and arrest in 14 states as part of Operation Protect Brazil (“Operação Proteja Brasil”). The measure aims to fight child sex abuse in Brazil and the diffusion on the internet of pornographic material involving children and teenagers, thereby preventing crimes of this sort, especially during the World Cup.

Out of the 40 warrants, ten are being exercised in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, six in Pernambuco, and five in São Paulo.

During the last three operations against the sexual exploitation of children and teenagers conducted by the Federal Police (named “Glasnost”, “Pureza 2” and “Infância Segura”), a hundred people were charged. Since January 2013, 1,441 investigations have been initiated to probe into crimes of child pornography.
