Argentina has secured its spot in the semi-finals with a goal by Higuaín against Belgium on Saturday (July 5). The team has finally clinched a World Cup semifinals appearance after 24 years of early eliminations.

The goal came after an error in Belgium's defense on eight minutes of the first half. Higuaín kicked with his right foot straight to the goal, with no chances for keeper Courtois.

The move began with Lionel Messi, who took a loose ball over in the midfield. Di María received and attempted a pass, which deflected off Belgium's defense and found Higuaín to shoot home.

The South American outperformed its opponent with more ball possession and more completions. Belgium actually had some good attempts of its own, especially by Bruyne, who made a perfect cross on 19 minutes of the second half for Garay, who was in the area and kicked. Romero saved.

On 49 minutes of the second half, Witsel had the best chance of the game to equalize for Belgium, but his shot went wide.

Di María got injured and his semi-final appearance against the Netherlands is now uncertain. The game will be at Arena Corinthians, São Paulo, on Wednesday (9).
