Brazilian courts to charge Pizzolato for extradition expenses
Public Prosecution Office will charge former Banco do Brasil Marketing Director Henrique Pizzolato the amount of $43,600 for extradition expenses from Italy to Brazil. The information was disclosed today (Oct. 23) by the Prosecutor-General Rodrigo Janot in a press conference about Pizzolato's repatriation.
According to Janot, the costs covered the trip, document's translation, and video recording at Papuda penitentiary and in two prisons in Santa Catarina, aiming at showing to the Italian authorities that the former director had been receiving decent treatment in Brazilian prisons.
The prosecutor further declared that the courts will request the repatriation of the 113,000 euros seized with Pizzolato in 2014 in Italy.
Pizzolato arrived in Brazil this morning (Oct. 23) from Italy, the country to which he had escaped with a false passport. Accompanied by federal police officials, he was taken to the Papuda penitentiary in Brasília, where he will serve jail time, for his involviment in a scheme known as mensalão.
