Pizzolato to go through two other legal processes in Brazil
Prosecutor-General Rodrigo Janot said today (Oct. 23) that will ask for the Italian government to authorize former Banco do Brasil Marketing Director Henrique Pizzolato to go through two other legal processes.
Janot noted that Italy has only allowed the extradition of the former Banco do Brasil director to serve the ruling of 12 years in jail provided by the Criminal Action 470, from the mensalão scandal proceedings. "He is coming under these conditions. Any penalty increase can only be imposed if the country of origin authorizes it," said Janot.
In a press conference, Janot signaled that there is a criminal proceeding against Pizzolato for money laundering in Rio de Janeiro and another one for forgery in Santa Catarina.
About the arrival of the former Banco do Brasil director to the country, Janot considered an important date for the Brazilian courts. For him, the extradition was only possible due to the joint efforts of various agencies of the Brazilian state, like the Attorney-General's Office, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Foreign Relations.
"It's no use to run away from the Brazilian courts' ruling. The Brazilian courts' ruling reaches the condemned wherever they are," he reported. "This is a very clear, paradigmatic message. It marks a watershed," further declared the prosecutor.
Pizzolato arrived in Brazil early this Friday (Oct. 23) at Guarulhos International Airport in São Paulo, from there he came to Brasília. Accompanied by federal police officials, he was taken to the Forensic Institute for further examination, and then to the Papuda penitentiary in Brasília, where he will serve time.
