Minister says we need to "ditch" political intolerance
Chief of Staff Jaques Wagner said today (Oct. 26) that the Brazilian civil society needs to 'ditch' every intolerance, including in politics. "Democracy only thrives in an environment of tolerance," he pointed out during a speech at an event promoted by the magazine Carta Capital, in São Paulo, to award the most admired companies in Brazil.
For Jaques Wagner, the current crisis is not leading to any catastrophe. Open dialogue and defense of democracy should always be debated.
Also attending the award ceremony, economist Luiz Gonzaga Belluzzo defended the debate on tax reform, which, in his opinion, needs to be more rational and fair. He explained that the worker receiving up to five minimum wages spends 55% of their income on taxes. For the richest layers of society, the cost decreases. "It's a very regressive system," evaluated Belluzzo.
Economist and former Finance Minister Delfim Netto also attended the ceremony, and declared that there was no administrative misconduct act performed by President Dilma Rousseff to justify impeachment requests. "Accounting tricks have always occurred at federal, state, and local levels," he noted.
The deliberate delays to transfer funds from the National Treasury to public and private banks in order to finance government programs are known as "accounting tricks", and are prohibited by law. The Treasury's purposes for these cases is to artificially improve the federal accounts.
