Brazil is home to 206.081 million inhabitants, an estimate published today (Aug. 30) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) shows. Last year, the population amounted to 204,450,649.
Of the 27 Brazilian states, São Paulo is the most populous, with 44.75 million inhabitants. Five other states have over 10 million inhabitants: Minas Gerais (21 million), Rio de Janeiro (16.63 million), Bahia (15.28 million), Rio Grande do Sul (11.29 million), and Paraná (11.24 million).
The three least populous states have fewer than 1 million dwellers: Roraima (514.2 thousand), Amapá (782.3 thousand), and Acre (816.7 thousand).
