Overpass collapses in Brasília; no victims reported
Part of a roadway overpass on the main road of Brasília, Brazil's capital city and seat of the Brazilian government, collapsed Tuesday (Feb 6). The incident took place in a busy area at around midday, and partly affected a restaurant.
The place is used as a parking lot by people working nearby. Drivers were allowed to remove their vehicles from near the scene. No casualties have been reported.
Another collapse had taken place on Sunday in the garage of a residential building amid heavy rains that have pounded Brazil's capital city. No information has been released as to whether the two incidents are linked to the downpours.
In 2013, auditors had detected weak spots in a number of monuments in Brasília, among them the overpass that collapsed today.
