The Center for Investigation and Prevention of Air Accidents (Cenipa) started an inquiry into the causes of the technical problem facing air carrier Latam’s Boeing 777 taking 339 passengers to London.

The plane had taken off at the International Airport of Cumbica, São Paulo, early on Thursday (Dec. 20), and had to do an emergency landing at the International Airport of Belo Horizonte–Confins.

In a note, Cenipa reported that a team of investigators was sent to the place to collect data on the incident involving the aircraft, which also had 16 crew members. The probe aims to prevent similar accidents.

Concessionaire BH Airport announced all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated after the emergency. Next, the emergency plan was initiated and a crisis unit was installed to provide assistance to passengers and support for the carrier, and to find solutions to normalize operations as quickly as possible. The airplane, which had several tires damaged, had its repair concluded at 9:58 pm yesterday (20).

Latam declared that all passengers were taken to the Airport of Guarulhos, where another plane took off for London.

The International Airport of Belo Horizonte resumed its routine after the emergency landing, which led to one of the lanes being temporarily closed.
