Brazil ex-President Temer arrested in Car Wash probe

He was detained in São Paulo and is being taken to Rio de Janeiro

Former Brazilian President Michel Temer was arrested this morning (Mar. 21) in São Paulo. The information has been confirmed by the Federal Police. Temer is being taken to the Guarulhos Airport, where is to take off to Rio de Janeiro.

The arrest was ruled by Rio Judge Marcelo Bretas, in charge of the developments of Operation Car Wash.

Moreira Franco

Former Minister of Mines and Energy Moreira Franco is also being targeted by the agents this Thursday.

A member of the party Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB), Temer became president of Brazil in May 2016, after ex-President Dilma Rousseff was ousted. Over the course of his career in politics, Temer was lower house speaker, secretary for Public Security, and prosecutor-general in São Paulo state.
