Brigades to prevent and fight wildfire in Brazil
A ruling by the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama), published Monday (Jun 10), allows federal brigades to be hired indefinitely to take part in efforts to prevent and fight wildfire in states facing an environmental emergency.
Details on the hiring process and the areas where the brigades will serve will be defined by the National System for Wild Fire Prevention and Combat, Prevfogo. The assessment includes “technical criteria like the identification of heat points, the location of preservation units, indigenous territories and rural settlement projects, and the coverage of remaining forest areas.”
The document lists municipalities where the brigades will work temporarily, according to the authorization granted by Prevfogo.
