Authorities on Thursday (Sep 11) declared state of attention in all São Paulo due to the 30 percent air humidity rate in the city.

Thermometers showed temperatures above 34ºC, which, coupled with low humidity, may bring about a number of nuisances.

Temperatures are likely to continue on the rise in South America’s biggest metropolis, and the steadily dry weather hinders the dissipation of pollutants and favors the start of fires, lowering air quality in urban areas.

Less humid seasons boost hospital admissions by at least 30 percent, as per official figures. Breathing conditions make the situation even worse.

People are advised to drink a lot of water and protect themselves from the Sun.
