Rock in Rio starts today with traditional Metal Day
The Olympic Park, in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro, will attract large crowds as of today (Sep. 2), with the 2022 edition of Rock in Rio, which starts with its traditional Metal Day.
The 385-thousand-square-meter City of Rock opens its gates at 2 pm (Brasília time). Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, and Gojira will play on the World Stage. There will also be a promising joint performance with the Sepultura rock band and the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra (OSB).
The festival will take place on September 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, and 11, and the program includes international stars like Justin Bieber, Guns n' Roses, Coldplay, and Dua Lipa, besides famous Brazilian artists like Gilberto Gil, Ludmilla, Iza, Ivete Sangalo, and Racionais band. The Rock in Rio organization expects the festival to inject BRL 2.2 billion into Rio de Janeiro's economy, and to attract around 500,000 fans.
The City of Rock is located 30 kilometers from downtown, so a special traffic and transport scheme will be available for the public. Around 100 thousand people per day are expected to attend the concerts.
