Brazil: National Museum buries its first time capsule
The National Museum/UFRJ, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, sealed on Friday (25) its first time capsule, in the area in front of the São Cristóvão Palace, headquarters of the institution, at Quinta da Boa Vista, in Rio de Janeiro's northern zone.
Among the more than 100 items that have been gathered by the museum and its partners are letters from authorities, newspapers, documents, videos, pendrive documents, small parts of the São Cristóvão Palace's coverings, drawings by public school students, among other objects and souvenirs. The capsule is scheduled to open in 2072.
Created to store objects and information that portray a certain era, the time capsules present elements that allow knowledge about a society's habits and values. Specially prepared so that the content is preserved, the time capsules include objects, coins, documents, letters, and personal mementos of the people involved in their production.
