Brazil Federal Police announce normalization of passport issuance

Passport applications are being processed nationwide

The Brazilian Federal Police informed on Wednesday (Dec. 26) the issuing of passports is being normalized. According to the corporation, the distribution of documents that had been in demand since the beginning of the month has already begun. Last week, the Federal Police reported that 108,701 people were waiting to receive their passports.

Delivery will start gradually. Applicants must check the status of the request on the electronic portal of the Federal Police and pick up the passport when a message says it is available.

According to a statement released by the Federal Police, new applications will be normally processed nationwide. "Delivery will be normalized as soon as previous requests have been processed," the statement reads.

The issue of passports was first suspended on November 19 due to lack of resources. The following week, the federal government reallocated BRL 37.36 million from the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development to reactivate the service.
