Extratropical cyclone approaches southern Brazil
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued a warning to the population of southern Brazil regarding the imminent arrival of an extratropical cyclone on Wednesday (Jul. 12). This cyclone is a result of a low-pressure system forming between northern Argentina and Paraguay.
The system is anticipated to intensify over the continent throughout the day, leading to strong winds across much of the southern region. Gusts may reach speeds exceeding 80 km/h. Along the coastal strip of Rio Grande do Sul state, even more intense gusts surpassing 110 km/h are expected in certain areas, according to Inmet.
Additionally, Inmet predicts daily rainfall accumulations of up to 100 millimeters in certain regions of the state. The institute further states that the intensity of the winds should diminish from Thursday (13), as the extratropical cyclone moves towards the Atlantic Ocean and weakens.
This extratropical cyclone will be accompanied by a cold front, which is expected to cross the country and bring low temperatures not only to the South but also to areas of the Southeast, Central-West, and potentially even the southern part of the Amazon region.
