Life expectancy at birth in Brazil stood at 76.4 years in 2023, according to data released by the Brazilian government´s statistics agency IBGE and published this Friday (Nov. 29) in the Federal Official Gazette. This represents an increase of 0.9 years compared to 2022, when life expectancy was recorded at 75.5 years.

According to IBGE, the survey provides life expectancy estimates at specific ages up to 80, based on a reference date of July 1. These data offer insights into the mortality levels and patterns of the Brazilian population.
Life expectancy is used to calculate the pensions of the vast majority of Brazilian workers.
