Brazil's Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira welcomed a cooperation proposal from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development of France, Laurent Fabius, ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympics. During a visit to Brazil, he offered support to ensure security and prevent terrorist attacks in the Olympics.

During a news conference on Sunday (Nov. 22), Fabius said France offered to cooperate through the French intelligence service, by sharing both the outcome of the measures enforced by France and exchanging information with a view to mitigating the risk of attacks in Brazil during the Games.

“I told President Dilma Rousseff we are ready to help. Unfortunately what happened in Paris could happen in other countries as well, because of the [terrorist groups'] global connections,” the French minister noted.

He came to Brazil for engagements concerning the 21st UN Climate Conference of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21), which will bring together representatives from 195 countries from November 30 to December 11 in Paris. On Sunday, Fabius met with Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff, Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, and Environment Minister Izabella Teixeira.

The main goal at COP 21 is to draft a new agreement between countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and slow down global warming so as to keep the temperature rise within a maximum 2° Celsius by 2100. According to Teixeira, Brazil has committed to the efforts.
