A small group of Brazilians living in Argentina occupied the Brazilian consulate in Buenos Aires Wednesday (May 11) to stage a protest against the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff. The demonstrators carried banners and put on an artistic performance inside the building to urge authorities “not to acknowledge governments not elected by popular vote.”

During the rally, a 17-year-old high school student—the youngest in the group—read out a manifesto. “I haven't voted yet. I was old enough to vote in the last elections, but I was too scared of getting involved in politics to do it,” he said. “I'm here to raise my voice against the coup, against splitting up with democracy, and against losing the rights our people earned and deserve to keep,” he concluded.

In the afternoon, the Argentinian Front for Democracy in Brazil—an association of left-wing political parties and organizations—scheduled a march in downtown Buenos Aires ending at the Brazilian embassy to demonstrate against impeachment.
