Secretary General Luis Almagro of the Organization of American States (OAS) will meet with Brazil's Foreign Minister Aloysio Nunes Ferreira in Brasília this Monday (April 10) to discuss topics in the regional agenda and Brazil's relationship with the OAS, including the preparations for the 47th General Assembly of the Organization to be held in Mexico in June and the situation in Venezuela.

Last Friday (7), Almagro called on the Venezuelan government to stop using violence and repression of opposition demonstrators who he says are campaigning peacefully for democracy and the rule of law in the country.

The OAS is the world's oldest-functioning regional organization. Established in 1948, it replaced the Pan American Union founded in 1910. The organization is founded on four main pillars: strengthening democracy, promoting and protecting human rights, driving integral development, and promoting multidimensional security.
