Brazil gov’t shows solidarity with Indonesian people

The Brazilian government released a note of grief and solidarity addressing the Indonesian people, who have worked in the rescue of the dead and injured since Sunday (Dec. 23), when the beaches surrounding the Sunda Strait were hit by a tsunami.
“The Brazilian government expresses its condolences to the family members of the victims, and its wishes for the recovery of the injured, and solidarity with the people and the government of Indonesia,” the text says.
Today (24), the Indonesian authorities confirmed the deaths of 281 people on the islands of Java and Sumatra.
Thus far, the Brazilian Foreign Ministry has no reports of Brazilians affected by the phenomenon. The surveillance is being conducted through the Brazilian embassy in Jakarta and the Consular Assistance Division (DAC), in Brasília.
