President Jair Bolsonaro signed this Wednesday (Jan. 26) a decree that creates the Representative Office of the Ministry of Economy of Brazil in Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States of America (USA). The text will be published in the next edition of the Official Gazette (DOU).

According to the government, the office aims to "consolidate the country's image as a safe environment to do business, with responsibility in the environmental, social and governance dimensions".

One of the tasks of the team that will coordinate the representation in the USA is to disclose economic reforms implemented in Brazil, which can provide investors more security and attract them.

"The office, in full alignment with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will be responsible for promoting business opportunities that lead to new jobs and income generation to the country. It shall also identify barriers to foreign investment and show the country's macroeconomic stability and solidity", informed the Presidential General Secretariat in a note.

Brazil has other bodies focused on attracting foreign investment, such as the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil), which has offices in the US, as well as economic sectors in its embassies.
