Brazil to send plane for repatriation of citizens amid Lebanon crisis
A Brazilian Air Force (FAB) plane will be dispatched in the coming days to repatriate Brazilians currently in Lebanon. According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the decision to bring them home was made by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The region is facing continuous Israeli airstrikes targeting civilian areas in Beirut, southern Lebanon, and the Beqaa Valley.
The operation, coordinated by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense, will have its departure date announced in the coming days, pending an assessment of flight safety conditions. FAB is initially planning to take off from Beirut airport, which remains operational.
"The Brazilian Embassy in Lebanon is working to facilitate the operation, maintaining constant communication with the Brazilian community and closely coordinating with local authorities," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
Last week, Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon claimed the lives of two Brazilian teenagers. Lebanon is home to the largest Brazilian community in the Middle East, with a total of 21,000 Brazilians residing in the country.
