Justice Alexandre de Moraes, head of the Superior Electoral Court, met today (Sep 27) with representatives from six trade union centers. They called for efforts to ensure the safety of both voters and poll workers on Sunday (Oct 2), the day of the first round of elections.

The union members handed the judge a document with suggestions on combating violence. They showed concern about violence against activists and journalists and also asked for a follow-up security plan for after the election.

In attendance were representatives from the Unifed Workers’ Union (CUT), the Força Sindical, the General Union of Workers (UGT), the Central of Workers of Brazil (CTB), the New Central Workers’ Union (NCST), and the Center for Brazilian Trade Unions (CSB).
