Correios launches stamp in honor of Brazilian flora

The company Correios [Brazilian Post Office] released this week the special stamp of the Mercosur Series: Fauna and Flora - Succulents. According to the company, the 14th special stamp announced highlights the relevance and beauty of these plants, capable of accumulating water in the stem, leaves and even the roots.

"Succulence is a characteristic highly associated with resilience. That's why it is so present in plants that inhabit arid regions of the globe, because the lack of water is the biggest factor that prevents a plant from surviving."

The company emphasizes that, because of this mechanism, it is possible to find succulents inhabiting from the rocks of Rio Grande do Sul to the Amazon Forest.

It is estimated that there are more than 12,000 species, distributed mainly in Africa, the Andes Mountains, and the deserts of North América.
