Brazil to have 141.8 million voters in next election
Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court (“TSE”) announced on Friday (May 9) that the elections this year will have the participation of 141.8 million voters, who will go to the polls to elect federal, state, and district deputies, as well as senators, governors, and the president of the republic.
According to a balance sheet released by TSE, the number of voters who will take part in the next elections has increased by 4.43 percent, or 6 million voters, in comparison with the 2010 elections. Data further reveal a rise of more than 600 percent – or 1.04 people – in the number of requests for facilities aimed at disabled voters. The rate stood at 148 thousand in 2010.
The study also shows that the Electoral Justice surpassed by 6.28 percent the target for the biometric registration of 22 million electors. Over 22.3 million people were included in the new system. In the previous elections, the number of people identified biometrically was 1.1 million.
Elections will take place nationwide on October 5.
