Communist Party backs Rousseff’s re-election
Members of the Communist Party of Brazil (“PCdoB”) reiterated at their national convention on Friday (Jun 27) unanimous support to President Dilma Rousseff’s re-election bid and her running mate Michel Temer. The event took place at a full Chamber of Deputies.
During the meeting, the party restated its proposals, to be consigned to the current president’s ticket, among them a judiciary reform, so as to facilitate the access to the Justice; maintain the current policy on minimum wage; and cut working hours down to a weekly 40.
PCdoB President Renato Rabelo said that the decision makes its historic relations with PT closer and more mature. “PCdoB is sure that Rousseff’s candidacy is the candidacy for the moment demanded by Brazil and desired by Brazil.”
In a document handed out at the convention, the party highlighted the current government’s performance in fighting the financial crisis “which made the global economy shrink.” In PCdoB’s view, Rousseff was able to face the negative impacts of “the crisis of capitalism and, under difficult circumstances, proved tough and competent.”
