By majority vote [15-2], the executive of the Freedom and Socialism Party (PSOL) has decided not to support any of the candidates running for president in the second round, Dilma Rousseff (Workers' Party, PT) and Aécio Neves (Brazilian Social Democracy Party, PSDB).

“The party do not endorse any of the contenders – however, we are opposed to Aécio Neves,” said Luciana Genro, who ran for president under PSOL in the first round. She received the fourth largest number of votes – over 1.6 million.

According to Luciana Genro, PSOL has nothing in common with Aécio Neves, “who represents a step backwards,” she saidFabio Rodrigues Pozzebom/Agência Brasil

In an interview on Wednesday (Oct. 8), Genro pointed out that her party's stance is not completely neutral because of their objection to Neves. While giving members freedom to make their own voting choices, the party will advise them against voting for the PSDB candidate on October 26. “No endorsement of his bid by our members would be reasonable,” the PSOL document read.

According to Luciana Genro, PSOL has nothing in common with Aécio Neves, “who represents a step backwards,” she said.
