Rousseff condemns “coup plot” again
President Dilma Rousseff has once again raised her voice against impeachment calls, which she has labeled as a “coup”. She said she has never engaged in any misconduct in her political or personal life.
Speaking to an audience of smallholder farmers in São Paulo state on Wednesday (Oct. 14), she again said Brazil is facing a “serious political crisis” and sectors of the opposition are plotting a kind of “disguised coup” as a shortcut to grab power.
According to Rousseff, there is nothing in her actions as president that could discredit her. “I have not engaged in any misconduct. I've never used to my own benefit the job I have decently carried out as president,” she said, adding: “Among those who have been turning against my tenure, there is not one I can tell has the moral strength, the unblemished reputation, and a sufficiently clean background to attack my honor.”
She urged her audience to help her advance a democratic agenda for Brazil, with equal opportunities for all. “With the commitment of each one of you we'll be able to overcome the crisis. I'm sure that my strength comes from you, from the struggle to make Brazil fairer, more equal, and truly democratic,” she said.
