President Dilma Rousseff called a meeting with the 31 ministers of her new team for this afternoon (Oct. 8) at the presidential palace. The meeting will be the first after the administrative reform announced last week, when there was a reduction of eight ministries, with some offices merging and others losing the status of ministry.

Rousseff's intention is to have a first talk with the ministers after the overhaul. When she announced the reform, the president said that its purpose would be to join a more "balanced" governing coalition and create an environment of "parliamentary cohesion".

The presidency's internal evaluation is that Brazil's current situation is serious, but the government's members still can react. This will be the second meeting with the ministers of Rousseff's second term. The first was held in January in Brasilia.
