President Dilma Rousseff revoked the United Nations sanctions imposed by the Brazilian government on Iran. The government published the official decree with the decision today (Feb. 12).

Rousseff's decree follows the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 of July 20, 2015, which endorsed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran's nuclear program, negotiated by Iran, the European Union, and the P5+1 countries (China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States).

On January 16, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that Iran met all requirements in the nuclear agreement signed in Vienna in July. Following the announcement, the United States and the European Union decided to lift sanctions on Iran.

Brazil's government should soon begin negotiations with Iran, which is interested in pursuing new business partnerships with Brazil.
