Lula country's greatest leader, Rousseff says
On swearing in former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as Chief of Staff, President Dilma Rousseff said he is the nation's greatest political leader. “Difficulties often create opportunities. The current circumstances give me a great chance to bring to the government the greatest political leader in this country.”
She hailed him as a great friend and brother in arms. “Welcome, dear companion Minister Lula. I am counting on the experience of former President Lula, on the identity he enjoys in this country and the people of this country. I count with his incomparable capacity of looking our people in the eye, understanding them. Your presence here, companion Lula, shows that you have the grandeur of statesmen. This is proof that there are no obstacles to our willingness to work together for Brazil.”
Those attending the inauguration ceremony at the presidential palace were mostly representatives from social movements and union centers interrupted the president's address with cries in support for Lula, and shouting “O povo não é bobo, abaixo a Rede Globo” and “A verdade é dura, a Rede Globo apoiou a ditadura,” popular rhyming chants meaning “People are not stupid, down with Globo TV,” and “The truth is tough: Rede Globo supported the dictatorship.”
