Nearly 30% of Brazil voters did not graduate from elementary school
Brazil is home to over 144 people ready to vote on October 2 for city councilor and mayor. Of those, 41.1 million (28.5%) told the Electoral Supreme Court, in charge of electors' registration, they dropped out of school before finishing elementary school, designed to end near the age of 15 in Brazil. Also, 27.38 million electors said they did not graduate from high school, aimed at kids from 16 to 18 years old in the country.
According to the data, 6.9 million electors said they can read and write, and 90 thousand did not specify schooling. On the other hand, a mere 9.5 million (6.6%) hold a university degree.
Women make up the majority of Brazilian voters: 75.2 million, or 53.2%; whereas men account for 68.7 million, or 47.7%. Some 95.2 thousand electors did not tell their gender.
Compared to the total of people to vote in the 2012 municipal elections, Brazil reported a growth of 3.96%, going from 138.5 million to 144 million electors.
