President Michel Temer sent a letter to US President-elect Donald Trump congratulating him on his election victory. In the text, Temer wishes “full success” for the US government, and says the two countries are great democracies holding “strong ties in a wide range of arenas.”

Temer also declared he is convinced they will work together to forge even closer ties of friendship and cooperation among peoples.

In announcing the sending of the missive, Alexandre Parola, the presidential spokesperson, added that President Temer watched the electoral process leading up to Trump's election unfold last night.

Parola added that Brazil-US relations are marked by “a high degree of intensity and diversity,” which, he said, is clear not just in the government plan, but also in society and businesses in the two countries in a number of fields.

Commenting on Donald Trump's victory on Twitter earlier, Temer wrote that the two countries will preserve their institutional ties, and that no significant change is expected to take place between the two nations.
