Lula's testimony to Judge Moro over after five hours
The testimony of former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to Federal Judge Sergio Moro has just ended, five hours ago.
Lula answered questions posed by Moro and also the prosecution, and proceeded to final remarks.
The former president is charged with pocking bribes from construction company OAS in the form of renovation works at a beachside triplex apartment in Guarujá and a ranch in Atibaia, both in São Paulo state.
Lula's testimony started at approximately 2:15 p.m. Wearing a tie with the colors of the Brazilian flag, the former president walked into the courthouse scorted by his lawyer Cristiano Zanin. Demonstrators supporting Lula and allied politicians followed him to the building, among whom impeached President Dilma Rousseff.
The testimony was held amidst tightened up security outside the building. Some 4 thousand public security agents were engaged, from the federal, state, and municipal levels. Of these, 1.7 thousand are military police from Curitiba, according to official data.
