President Michel Temer will have a meeting at Planalto presidential palace today (Aug. 28), ahead of his week-long trip to China tomorrow, to pass work instructions for the period he will be away.

In Xiamen, China, he will attend the 9th Summit of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) from 3 to 5 September. Among other topics, the bloc will discuss strengthening economic cooperation among member countries.

During the president's absence, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Rodrigo Maia, will take over as acting president.
