Brazil accepted as non-NATO ally by US
President Jair Bolsonaro announced that Brazil has been accepted by the US as a non-NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) ally. The alliance, Bolsonaro said, is expected to increase assistance in the military field and the defense market.
“I proudly announce that we have collected one of the fruits of our trip to the US by being accepted by President Donald Trump as a non-NATO ally,” the president said at a military event in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul state, on Saturday (Jun 15). “[This] allows us to equip ourselves better and interact more with the defense market,” he added.
Gun use
In his address, the president once again argued for arming the population. “Our life has value, but there is something a lot more valuable than our lives, namely our freedom. In addition to the Armed Forces, I advocate the individual use of guns for our population, so that temptations won’t cross the minds of leaders seeking to seize absolute power. We have examples of this in Latin America. We don’t want it repeated. By having confidence in the people and the Armed Forces, this evil is driven further and further away from us,” he said.
Bolsonaro went on to say that it takes more than just Congress to implement the political measures. “More than Parliament, we need the people on our side so we can introduce a policy reflecting peace and joy for everyone.”
