The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) published on Monday (Aug. 8) a manifesto to the nation in defense of democracy. The entity declared that, after 92 years of history, it will continue with its constitutional mission of representing the law and being the guardian of the Democratic Rule of Law.

OAB also stated that it advocates clean and free elections, respecting the voter's will.

"OAB is not a supporter or opponent of governments, parties, and candidates. Our critical autonomy ensures credibility and strength for our actions of support and uncompromising defense of the Democratic Rule of Law," says the Order.

Finally, the entity declared that it protects democracy.

Bolsonaro

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who is seeking re-election in October, criticized again on Monday the release of letters to defend democracy, saying that anyone can write such irrelevant letters.

In his speech during a meeting with the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban) and the National Confederation of Financial Institutions (CNF), Bolsonaro said that anyone who wants democracy needs to feel it, and not sign such letters.
