Dengue cases in Brazil surpass 6.4M in 2024
The Ministry of Health's Arbovirus Monitoring Panel reported 6,484,890 probable dengue cases and 5,972 deaths from the disease in 2024 in Brazil. An additional 908 deaths are still under investigation. As of December 28, the dengue incidence rate stood at 3,193.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
In 2024, most probable dengue cases (55%) were reported among women. Regarding race/color, 42 percent of cases were among white individuals, 34.4 percent among brown, 5.1 percent among black, 0.9 percent among yellow, and 0.2 percent among indigenous people. In 17.3 percent of cases, race/color data were not recorded. The 20-29 age group had the highest number of probable cases, followed by the 30-39 and 40-49 age groups.
In the state rankings, São Paulo reported the highest number of probable cases (2,182,875), while the Federal District leads in disease incidence, with 9,907.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
