Up to yesterday, 1,342 cases of monkeypox had been registered in the country. Last Friday the ministry confirmed the first death caused by the disease in Brazil.
The man is reported to have been admitted to a public hospital in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais state, where he succumbed after a septic shock, aggravated by monkeypox.
WHO says cases may be underreported because there are not enough tests available. According to the Ministry of Health, all necessary measures have been taken.
Most cases were confirmed in São Paulo, followed by Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Ceará; Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Federal District and Rio Grande do Norte.
The country's National Health Council refers to Brazil as one of the few countries with an extensive list of free vaccines for their population. Some 300 million vaccines are provided every year.
