Efforts will focus on the protection of Brazilian biodiversity and oceans. Environment Minister Marina Silva met with US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry.
The US special envoy for climate came to Brazil to move forward with the Brazil-US Climate Change Working Group, officially relaunched by Lula and Biden in February.
The Amazon Fund aims to finance projects for reducing deforestation and monitoring the biome. It had been deactivated in the last government and has been reactivated now.
Inactive since 2018, the fund’s Guidance Committee was reinstalled at the Rio headquarters of development bank BNDES on Wednesday. The group is formed by representatives from the federal and state governments and society.
The “ambitious actions” should be carried out over a period of a hundred days, Germany’s Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development Svenja Schulze added.
