A total of 242 people died in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul state. At least 23 individuals were held accountable for different crimes, but an outcome is still pending.
The owners of Boate Kiss, Elissandro Calegaro Spohr and Mauro Londero Hoffmann, were sentenced to 22 years and six months, and to 19 years and six months of imprisonment respectively.
The fire at the Kiss Nightclub occurred in 2013, in the city of Santa Maria, leaving 242 dead and 636. The incident occurred because of the use of pyrotechnic resources inside the club.
The defendants were sentenced by the Jury of Porto Alegre last week, but were granted preventive habeas corpus granted by a judge of the Court of Justice.
