The Supreme Court (STF) on Wednesday (June 7) began hearing a case on the legal right of transsexual people to a civil name change even if they have not had sex reassignment surgery.
The Supreme Court of Brazil is due to decide this Thursday (April 20) whether transgender people can change their registered names when they have not had a sex reassignment surgery.
The Court of Rio de Janeiro has authorized a transsexual to change their name and gender used on legal documents without undergoing a genital reconstruction surgery. The decision was made late in August, but only now has it become public.
