Brazil’s Minister for the Environment and Climate Change Marina Silva has been named one of the ten most influential people in the world for science by Nature magazine, one of the leading international scientific publications.
Agricultural sciences suffered the most significant impact with a 13.7% decrease, followed by natural sciences, medical sciences, and engineering and technologies.
The percentage is below what other recent surveys have revealed. Among the factors ascribed to the decline are misinformation campaigns, which grew during the pandemic.
The theme of this edition is 200 years of science, technology and innovation in Brazil. Throughout the country, the event promotes free activities in both face-to-face and online formats.
“[It] requires strategies for adding value—especially in research and development,” Minister Paulo Alvim said at a national congress on industrial machinery.
