Justice Alexandre de Moraes contended that Elon Musk, the platform’s owner, has conflated freedom of expression with the freedom to incite aggression.
In the early hours of Saturday (Aug. 31), internet providers in Brazil began blocking the social network X following Justice Moraes' order to suspend the platform.
The company’s global affairs department said that “to protect the safety of our staff, we have made the decision to close our operation in Brazil, effective immediately. The X service remains available to the people of Brazil.”
In his ruling, Justice Moraes pointed out that Elon Musk’s company is pursuing "jurisdictional immunity" to evade the impact of Brazilian court decisions.
